Foil tape is a fun craft medium to use, put it over a foam cut out and design different impressions.
We told the story of King David this week. This was a fun alternative to the typical paper crown that we have made in the past.
Materials:
Foam paper
Foil tape
Impression tool (modeling tools, chop sticks, etc.)
Stickers
Gems
Elmer's glue (optional)
Purchase or cut, that is the dilemma.
I tried a couple of different methods to make it easier to cut the shape out. Unfortunately I didn't learn about the dye cut machine until after this craft. If it is available to you I would say use it. Otherwise use a template and have the kids cut out the desired shape. It doesn't take long to cut out but for a class room setting on a time budget I would just purchase if you can find it.
If you trace a template you can make a deep impression into the foam and then lay the foil tape over it before cutting out. The foil tape shows imperfections well so it should show through. It is less work doing this way. Of course you can just re-cut the foil tape once you place it over a pre-cut shape.
Now comes the fun part, design.
Be original, show off your style, and tell your story.
Next you can use any number of tools to create your impressions in the foil tape. I wouldn't use anything too sharp. We used a combination of chopsticks and golf tees.
Finish with gems, stickers, or anything else you can think of.
